Comparison of perfluorinated rubber with fluorinated rubber (FKM) : performance differences and application scenarios

1. Performance difference

Chemical resistance

Perfluorinated rubber: has excellent chemical resistance, can resist high concentrations of strong acids, alkali, organic solvents and oxidants.

Fluorine rubber (FKM) : chemical corrosion resistance is also very strong, but compared to perfluorinated rubber is slightly inferior, mainly used in general acids, bases, organic solvents and oils.

High temperature resistance

Perfluorinated rubber: Excellent high temperature resistance, usually operating in the temperature range of -20°C to 200°C, and some special formulations can even be used for a long time at 260°C.

Fluororubber (FKM) : high temperature resistance is good, usually working in the temperature range of -30°C to 200°C, but can not reach the high temperature limit of perfluorinated rubber.

Low temperature resistance

Perfluorinated rubber: Good low temperature resistance, able to maintain flexibility at very low temperatures.

Fluorine rubber (FKM) : low temperature resistance is relatively poor, easy to harden and brittle at low temperatures.

Mechanical property

Perfluorinated rubber: has high tensile strength, elasticity and wear resistance.

Fluororubber (FKM) : good mechanical properties, but in high strength and high wear environment slightly inferior to perfluororubber.

Electrical insulation property

Perfluorinated rubber: Excellent electrical insulation properties.

Fluororubber (FKM) : electrical insulation performance is better, but not as good as perfluorinated rubber.

Gas and liquid permeability

Perfluorinated rubber: Very low gas and liquid permeability.

Fluororubber (FKM) : Slightly more permeable than perfluororubber, but still lower.

2. Application scenario

Application scenarios of perfluorinated rubber

Aerospace: Seals, gaskets, hoses and other critical components used in aircraft and spacecraft.

Chemical and petrochemical: Used for the sealing and protection of highly corrosive chemicals, such as valve sealing, pipeline sealing, etc.

Electronics and semiconductors: Used for sealing and protection in semiconductor manufacturing processes.

Medical equipment: High sealing and chemical resistance requirements for medical devices.

Fluororubber (FKM) application scenarios

Automotive industry: Used for engine seals, fuel system seals, hoses, etc.

Oil and gas: Used for oil well equipment, pipeline sealing, valve sealing, etc.

Refrigeration and air conditioning: Seals and gaskets for refrigeration equipment.

Food processing: Seals and gaskets for equipment in contact with food.

Sum up

Perfluororubber and fluororubber (FKM) are both high performance elastic materials, but each has its advantages and disadvantages. Perfluorinated rubber is superior in chemical resistance, high temperature resistance and low temperature resistance, and is suitable for demanding applications under extreme conditions. Fluororubbers (FKM) perform better in terms of mechanical properties and oil resistance and are suitable for general industrial and automotive applications. Choosing the right material depends on the specific application environment and performance requirements.
